Who we are
The Flywheel Venture Studio ("The Flywheel", "we") co-founds AI companies in manufacturing, energy, and defense. The Tech Flywheel Ltd (registration number HE 481174), 41-49 Agiou Nikolaou, Nimeli Court, Block C, Egkomi 2408, Cyprus, is responsible for the personal data described here. Contact: contact@theflywheel.studio.
What this app is for
Flywheel Discovery Hub is where we work with Founder-in-Residence candidates, and the people they invite, during a discovery sprint. In the app we:
- agree a Sprint Brief: the customer you want to serve, the problem you believe they have, and how you will test it;
- list the companies and people you plan to speak to, and track your outreach and interviews;
- record what the sprint taught us.
Only people we or the candidate invite can sign in. The app is separate from our other systems.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address (and your name, if you sign in with Google), and the role you have in each sprint. We never receive a password, or any other data from Google.
- What you write: the brief, every revision and its reason, comments, source labels and citations, and the companies you list.
- Contacts at target companies: for each person you plan to interview, their name, role, company, work contact details, and the progress of your outreach. We keep only what the sprint needs.
- Activity: who changed what and when, and the notification emails the app sends.
The app sets only the cookies it needs to keep you signed in. It does not use advertising or tracking cookies.
How we use it
- To run the discovery sprint with you: show the brief, record changes and decisions, and send email notifications.
- To assess the opportunity and your candidacy, and to decide on next steps, such as a Founder-in-Residence agreement or co-founding a company.
- To improve how we run discovery sprints, using only general, anonymised patterns.
We rely on taking steps at your request before entering into an agreement with you, and on our legitimate interest in evaluating and building new companies. For contacts at target companies, we rely on our legitimate interest in professional outreach, limited to business contact details.
Who can see it
- The studio team working on your sprint.
- The people you invite. They see what their access allows (view or edit). The studio is told whenever someone is invited, and can remove anyone.
- Service providers that run the app for us, under contracts that require
them to protect it and use it only on our instructions:
- Google Cloud (hosting and database, in the European Union);
- Google Workspace (sending notification email);
- Anthropic (its AI helps us prepare and organise material in the app; it may process data outside the EU, under the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, which are part of Anthropic's data processing terms; under its commercial terms it may not use the content to train its models).
We never sell personal data. We do not share your material with anyone else without your agreement, unless the law requires it.
Ownership and use of the sprint's work
- The studio does not own the sprint's work. The Flywheel claims no ownership of the work you develop with us during a discovery sprint: the brief's content, the companies and contacts you identify, your interview notes, and what you learn. This applies even where the studio wrote a first draft or suggested changes.
- We use it to evaluate your application. We keep a copy and use it to assess the opportunity and your candidacy, to decide on next steps, and as a record of what was agreed and learned. When we learn from past sprints, we use only general, anonymised patterns.
- You are free to use it. You may use any information you obtain by completing a sprint to pursue your own business plans, whether or not you go on to work with The Flywheel.
Confidentiality
What we keep confidential
We treat what you share in your sprint as confidential: your brief and its history, your comments, and the companies and people you contact. We use it only for the purposes above, and we limit access to the people who need it.
What you keep confidential: our methodology
The way we run discovery is our own work. You, and anyone you invite, agree to keep it confidential and not to share or reuse it. This covers:
- the process we follow and the order of its steps;
- the Sprint Brief's structure: its parts, questions, guidance, labels, and the rules for agreeing and locking them;
- the templates, instructions, and guidance we provide in the app.
You may use the content of your sprint freely, as described above. What you may not use or share is the method itself: the structure in which that content is organised and the process by which it is produced.
What confidentiality does not mean
The Flywheel works with many founders and candidates, in a small number of sectors, and explores many opportunities at the same time. Ideas, markets, problems, and potential customers often overlap. Therefore:
- No restriction on our activities. Nothing in this notice or in this app stops us, or anyone we work with, from exploring, developing, investing in, or co-founding companies in any market or on any problem. This includes ones similar to, or competing with, what you work on here. This applies whether we started that work before, during, or after your sprint.
- What confidentiality covers. Our confidentiality applies to the information you share in its specific form, such as your brief's text, your notes, and your contacts. It does not cover general ideas, concepts, market knowledge, industry facts, or know-how. It also does not cover anything that is public, that we already knew, or that we learn independently.
- No exclusivity. Taking part in a sprint gives neither you nor us exclusive rights to an idea, market, or customer group.
- Other agreements still apply. If you sign a separate agreement with us, such as a Founder-in-Residence agreement, it governs where it differs from this notice.
If something is too sensitive to share on these terms, do not put it in the app. Talk to us first.
What not to upload
Do not upload information that you are not free to share, such as your employer's or a client's confidential information, trade secrets, or personal data you have no right to pass on. Use only the contact details of target companies that the sprint needs.
How long we keep it
We keep sprint material while the sprint and your candidacy are active, then for 2 years after the last activity. We keep it so that we have a record of what was agreed and learned, and to handle any later questions. After that, we delete it or anonymise it. You can ask us to delete your material earlier. We may keep what the law requires us to keep.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, you can ask us to give you access to your personal data, correct it, delete it, or restrict its use. You can also ask us to give it to you in a portable format, or object to how we use it. Email contact@theflywheel.studio. If you are not satisfied with our reply, you can complain to the Cyprus Commissioner for Personal Data Protection (www.dataprotection.gov.cy) or to the data protection authority in your own country.
Security
You can sign in only with an invited email address. Every page and every action checks your access on our side. The app has its own separate database and credentials, and it records every change.
Changes
We will update this page when our practices change. If a change affects you significantly, we will tell you in the app or by email.
